Charitable Activities and Donations

The Review of Economic Studies donates all profits from the journal to the cause of research in economics, and especially to supporting young scholars and under-represented groups in economics.

The Review covers the costs of editing and publishing the journal by charging a fee for new submissions and a fee to read (most) articles or to subscribe to the journal. The submission fee is discounted for current and recent students, and for residents of low- and middle-income countries. All surpluses are donated to charity or finance the charitable activities of the Review. Some of the key charitable activities of the Review are set out in the page below.

The REStud Tour

The Review of Economic Studies May Meetings (commonly know as the REStud Tour) have been held annually in May since 1989. Every year, in line with the Review’s tradition of encouraging the work of young economists, some of the most promising graduating doctoral students in economics and finance in the world are selected to present their research to audiences in Europe. The meetings take place at the economics departments or institutes of three or four universities across Europe. Standard seminar presentations are given over two days to audiences invited by the local hosts and which include members of the journal’s editorial board.

See the REStud Tours page for details of recent and upcoming tours. A list of Tour participants up to and including 2021 is available here.

The REStud North America Tour

Since 2021, REStud has also sponsored an annual tour of North American institutions to showcase excellent job market candidates from European institutions. See the Tours page for details of recent tours.

Women in Economics

REStud is a key sponsor of the WinE Retreat, an annual mentoring and networking event for young female economists with positions at academic and research institutions. It is organized by the Standing Committee on Women in Economics of the European Economic Association, known as WinE.

Ukraine

Since 2022, REStud has been supporting Ukrainian researchers with two initiatives:

  • First, REStud has made a large corporate donation to the British Red Cross for disbursement in Ukraine.
  • Secondly, REStud is partnering with Ukrainian Global University with a major donation to support scholars and researchers in economics who have been displaced by the conflict.
