The Review of Economic Studies (REStud) is pleased to announce, with our publisher partner Oxford University Press, the launch of The Review of Economic Studies: Insights. Researchers with findings which can be best communicated in a short paper format have relatively few opportunities to publish in leading general-interest journals. REStud: Insights has been created to meet this need, providing a dedicated outlet for concise research across all areas of economics and economic policy.
The journal will apply the same standards of quality, significance, and general interest associated with The Review of Economic Studies, while offering shorter formats and a faster, more decisive review process.
REStud: Insights is distinguished by its fully open-access model, concise article formats, and faster, more decisive editorial process. Every article will be freely and immediately available upon publication, reflecting REStud’s commitment to broadening access to rigorous economic research while ensuring that important economic ideas can be evaluated, published, and shared promptly with scholars, policymakers, practitioners, and the public worldwide.
Articles will be published continuously online, ensuring that accepted research can be discovered and shared promptly.
The journal will publish two types of articles:
Insights: Significant contributions of up to 6,000 words and five exhibits, including tables and figures.
Communications: Timely contributions addressing important economic or policy questions, of up to 2,000 words and two exhibits.
The target turnaround time is ten weeks for Insights and five weeks for Communications.
To support timely publication, REStud: Insights will use an “up-or-out” editorial process. Papers sent for peer review will receive one of three decisions: reject, accept, or conditional acceptance requiring only minor revisions that can be made quickly and are not expected to affect the publication decision.
All accepted papers must comply with The Review of Economic Studies data policy before publication.
The journal will be edited by Jan Eeckhout, Rachel Kranton, and Stephen Machin.
REStud: Insights welcomes submissions from researchers working in every field of economics. Through concise formats, rigorous editorial standards, rapid decisions, and unrestricted access, the journal aims to help important economic ideas reach the broadest possible audience.
The submissions portal and journal website are expected to launch in September 2026. The first issue is expected to be published in early 2027.
